Tell us about the band for people who haven’t yet experienced you yet!
We are based in the Seattle, WA area and have been playing under the name 7 Horns 7 Eyes for just over 4 years now. Before that it had a different name and Aaron (my brother) is the only member left from that era. I joined pretty much at the name change. There have been 4 or so member changes, but I won’t bore you with how each one came to be, but each one was more or less already a friend of the band. The name 7 Horns 7 Eyes comes from the Book of Revelation in the Bible.

Your music sits comfortably in the darker realms of the tech metal spectrum – what bands are you inspired by or listen to regularly?
We have a very wide range of music tastes and preferences that covers most of the musical spectrum, but when it comes to Metal our biggest influences would have to be Swallow The Sun, Meshuggah, Nevermore, and Daylight Dies. Each dude in the band listens to lots of other bands, but I feel like these are the ones which have influenced our sound the most.

You were picked up recently by Century Media and Basick Records – how did that come about?
We had been recording our first full length completely independently when we first generated label interest. Eventually we got in touch with Century and Basick and ended up linking a deal. It was actually pretty nice how things just fell into place… It almost couldn’t have gone better. Both labels are very excited to get the music out their and promote it too!

Can you tell us a little about the making of your new single Convalescence – how it came together, who was the main songwriter etc?

Aaron is the primary writer of the songs. He writes most of the parts and then structures it. Everyone else gives their input and adds their own flare and vibe to each song though. It’s definitely a mutual process. The 2 songs and 1 interlude are going to be on the upcoming full length titled ‘The Throes Of Absolution’. They were recorded during the same session of the full length. I guess you could call it an album teaser, just something to get people excited and to hold them over until the album comes out. The artwork turned out great too. It gives a general idea of the vibe of the artwork that will be on the full length.

How would you sum up the new record to someone that has never listened the band?
Dark, heavy, epic, melodic, technical almost all at the same time? Lots of killer leads as well, Sean is a great guitarist! I would say a tasteful mixture of the bands I listed in our influences. You can definitely tell who we are influenced by, but it doesn’t sound like a direct copy or rip off of them.

What have been the high and low points during your time in the band?
Signing to Century Media and Basick is probably the highest so far. I’ve been listening to Metal for a long time now and CM has always been like the Capital or Universal of metal… So to sign with them was a huge dream come true. And doing a European release with Basick is the icing on the cake! The lowest (aside from our many unlucky van problems) would probably have to our original singer Kyle quitting last year. Huge downer, but JJ has stepped up and done a phenomenal job since then!

What new releases have you heard lately that you were impressed by?
The new ‘Omnium Gatherum’ record is awesome. Super good Melodic Death done right that has complex structures! Not too common anymore when it comes to that genre. Both of the new Devin Townsend albums are obviously killer. Devin could probably (and almost does!) write any genre of music and I’m sure it would be good. The new ‘Fen’ album’s good stuff. The newest ‘Ulver’ is good too; they never sit still, always changing! Really enjoyed that release. The newest Pestilence is cool as well. Really heavy stuff with like a introverted riffing style! They have found a good sound since they reformed a few years ago. That’s about all that I can think of right now. Oh and the new Foo Fighters! Dave Grohl is a genius.

What are your interests/hobbies outside of music?
Baseball is one of my favorite things, especially the Seattle Mariners! My life almost rotates around their schedule during the season, haha. Other then that I like playing video games somewhat often and researching historical stuff.

Final question - do you have any last words for your fans over in Europe and the UK?
Thanks for listening and we’ll see you soon!
